Sponsorship Opportunity
With your help, we, the British Columbia Hereford Association, working hand in hand with the BC Junior Hereford Association, will be hosting one of the biggest junior beef cattle events in our country—the Canadian National Junior Hereford Show, also known as Bonanza—in Barriere, British Columbia July 19th to 24th, 2027. Held in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Hereford Association and Hereford Week in Canada activities, Bonanza is held in a different province each year on a rotational basis. This four-day event attracts more than 200 participants and their families, as well as Hereford breeders—both purebred and commercial—from across Canada.
In addition to Bonanza, 2027 is also the year for the BCHA to publish its 2027-2029 BC Hereford Directory and Handbook. We have received excellent feedback on each of the previous editions with people very appreciative of the up-to-date information it contains. It has become the “go to quick reference” for BC farmers, ranchers and anyone who has livestock, whether it’s for latest cattle vaccines, dewormers or drug dosages and withdrawals. Many 4-H clubs provide it to their members for the tools and charts and educational articles. Thanks to advertising support from companies such as yours, it has also become a great reference to find agricultural businesses around the province. We are currently planning both these projects and invite you and your business to be involved as sponsors. Please see the attached pages for more details about sponsorship opportunities. We are grateful for whatever support you can afford to help create an event to remember for our young cattle industry enthusiasts. The deadline for sponsorships is December 1, 2026 so we can get the new Directory & Handbook published and distributed to all the members of the BC Cattlemen’s Association, attached to their March 2027 Beef in BC magazine.

What is Bonanza?

The Canadian Junior Hereford Association (CJHA) hosted its first national junior cattle show in Manitoba in 1978. By 1980, this event became widely known as “Bonanza” – the CJHA’s national cattle show. This is a four-day, action-packed event hosted by alternate provinces each summer. Each annual Bonanza event, unique in its theme, now coincides with the Annual General Meetings of the Canadian Hereford Association, involves fellowship, a speaker program, occasional tours to local attractions and several competitions. Individual and team activities include cattle shows, showmanship, judging, stall, fitting and grooming competitions, and include photography, public speaking, art, literature and marketing competitions.
Bonanza is organized annually, from the ground up, by CJHA members themselves with the help of adult advisors and a host of volunteers in each respective province. The event is funded by local and national sponsors who have a vested interest in supporting the next generation of producers and leaders in Canadian agriculture. The Canadian Junior Hereford Association (CJHA) promotes and supports young Hereford breeders through educational events, cattle shows, unique national programs and its national show – Bonanza – which is a showcase of Junior Hereford participation and excellence. It is a self-sufficient, non-profit organization. The CJHA Council was founded in 1967, leading the way for other world youth breed organizations as the country’s first junior national cattle breed association. The CJHA serves to give our young members ownership and experience in the breed and in the wider industry and supports their efforts through programs such as the “Semen Donation Program”, the “Heifer Lottery Project” and through auctions, an annual calendar project and an Honour Roll. Members also benefit from real world experience on governing boards, through breeding, feeding and marketing their livestock and from related competitions, all of which hone their skills for larger arenas,
The organization is composed of individuals 21 years of age and under, from across Canada. An elected body of provincial representatives and a national advisor govern the CJHA with the guidance of provincial adult advisors. The CJHA fosters leadership, skills and connectedness within the industry, offering tremendous career launching opportunities for its members. It also fosters education through scholarships opportunities offered through the Keith Gilmore Foundation (KGF), the likes of which have put the CJHA and CHA on the world stage. The KGF has become one of the largest privately funded programs of its kind in Canada.
What is the BCHA Directory & Handbook?

The BCHA Directory & Handbook is the public face of the BC Hereford industry! This 2027-2029 edition will be a directory of all members of the BCHA and will include some information articles for cattleman, new and old. Every breeding unit that has registered cattle born in 2025 and/or 2026 will have a farm listing provided at no cost along with a corresponding mark on the BC map provided. This listing, sorted alphabetically by Farm name, will be your basic contact information and will include Farm Name, Owner’s Name, Address, Phone, Cell and Email address as well as the names of active CHA members directly associated with that breeding unit.
Print run will be 3500 with 1500 for direct mail out with the March 2027 Beef in BC magazine which goes to all members of the BC Cattlemen's Association. We expect to distribute 500 at Bonanza 2027 and the remaining 1500 will be distributed throughout the province to BCHA members, advertisers, ag businesses, 4-H clubs and junior events, auction markets & Fairs, as well as future Bonanzas and the Canadian Hereford Association office over the next three years!
